Both Shogun 2 Total War and the expansion Fall of the Samurai were taken care of years ago, but Rise of the Samurai was left out on the wayside. However, it's finally time to complete the trilogy and revisit Shogun 2. Taking place far before the events of the main campaign, is it worth it?

Good review man. Just started playing ROTS and am really enjoying it. It's difficult in its own way. But fun

very interesting dlc, increased difficulty through lower unit quality
like the converting minor clans, makes the early game quicker
essentially a dlc that escaltes to a late midgame quickly where 6 major players emerge

Will be fun trying the custom battles with vanila vs Rise units. Good way to train for battles considering I am greener than grass.

Taira For life. Arguably the best starting position.
It's a plain DLC tho.
Shogun 3 please.

I prefer RotS to vanilla, actually. One of the things I immediately fell in love with was how weak the bow units are initially. This is realistic, as bows of this era were pretty weak. I also tinkered with the unit stats a bit, among other things to make the foot samurai less OP. And I removed flaming arrows for all units except for naval battles.

They should’ve done a mongol/rise of the samurai type dlc instead would’ve way more interesting

The whole issue with the DLC were foot samurai which was essentially the only unit worth recruiting. And battles in ROTS are just not nearly as entertaining as vanilla or FOTS.

All in all, a poor DLC, unfortunately :(
