I Wouldn't Buy The Novation FL Key 37... Here's why

Ever since I built a richer mindset, when it comes to buying a new device, I think to myself, what value does it offer that I don't already have, and is the value worth more than $200 to me? Not sure that this one is worth it FOR ME. Lmk your thoughts!

i got the fl key 37 its actually pretty cool and helps with work flow alot i still use the mouse but not as much. the best part i like about it is the chord scale and chord fix .I can make chords more quick then i use to and dont have to use a chord helper or use scaler 2. i love it. and beats the shit out of having m audio keystation 49 es .

I've been using FL since 2.0, and for all the younger users, this is amazing keyboard to have alongside FL, especially because it's taken almost 20+ years to create. I've used many midi controllers with FL, but this one is probably my favorite (then again, I also have experience with finger drumming on an MPC). Using FL Keys without a mouse is a feature primarily for creators who have experience creating music on hardware, without much or any quantization, and a small to no screen.

I've been using it since it was Fruity Loops and I am still looking forward to this keyboard. You can never have enough toys! FL is SICK already. The dedicated keyboard will make it erm sicker!

I stopped watching when you couldn't see any benefit to being able to cycle through presets from the keyboard.

With FL Key you dont even have to pull up FPC to finger drum, you can do it straight from the channel rack, you just add your drums to channel rack and thats it. Not everybody owns an AKAI like you do to "map notes to entire bank" so easily like you did. For example, on my keyboard (Arturia keylab essential 61) I have only 8 drum pads, which means I will have to assign each pad one by one in FPC, otherwise it gets messed up (meaning it assigns two different drums in FPC to one pad at the same time), and I think thats what Michael In The Mix meant when he said it takes 5 minutes only. When it comes to NOTE REPEAT, you cant right click and do a 1/31 or Triplet, as I mentioned before its more for finger drumming. Also you showed SEVERAL different devices in comparison to ONLY ONE FL Key, most of the people dont own all those equipment separately, so for them it would be beneficial to have ALL IN ONE even tho its not perfect. Besides CHORDS mode it can also do a FIXED KEY NOTE (I dont remember how exactly its called on the device) which means you just pick whatever key note you want and your keys will not play anything out of key. There are some more features on FL Key which I dont remember atm, I think its still good keyboard for people who wants more fl studio control. But still thank you for your review!

To each his own, but I already owned the Fire and still use it, but less than before I got the FL Key 37. I disagree strongly that less use of the computer keyboard and mouse isn't useful. I LOVE not having to fiddle with the mouse nearly as much.

I personally think its a big inprovment, and I think it will make producing more fun or more enjoyable for certain people. It adds another option for the way someone produces music. The one thing in particular I think they should've added is an arpeggiator.

I’m sorry! But this keyboard is beast! I definitely use my mouse less and it brings me closer to the vibe of when I used and Mpc and analog keyboard! Hands on makes you feel more a part of the music! I love the FL Key 37 🏆🏆 Hopefully they keep upgrading

I think the FLKey 37 & the FLKey Mini (I have the mini and enjoy it) was meant to be direct competitors to Arturia's KeyStep 37 & Akai's mpk mini keyboards respectively. I think its worth getting if you don't already have a keyboard and was deciding between the 2 keyboards I mentioned; its definitely not worth trying to sell a keyboard just for this. Note repeat is useful if your want play in hihat rolls, though I think akai's mpk mini's not repeat was a bit more convenient for switching between triplet rhythms.

I personally liked the idea of this keyboard more than the Akai Fire (too small for me for being primarily a pad controller), and I guess I'm the weirdo who heavily relies on recalling FL's score logs 😂

EDIT: Another thing worth mentioning is this keyboard is still new, FL21 is around the corner, & Novation is pretty good with updating their products IMO; they are in the IL forums daily it seems, & the only blaring issue I have, will be addressed is some guides on how to use the custom pad/knob features in Novation Components (a Novation rep relayed this to me).

he a hater😂don’t get me wrong, i get it…there’s more professional and better options for every separate function on the flkey but personally i love my flkey. i was super hyped when i found out we were finally getting a keyboard for fl. it’s super convenient and offers a completely new creative angle to approach your music. and these come with a bunch of plug-ins. it definitely has room for improvement but it’s awesome in my opinion

Honestly, there is no other board that integrates with FL like this board. I actually bought it today after watching another video. It’s great for anyone just starting to get into FL.

Check the scale ability the keyboard can keep you in key scale, which is the most important function of all. The note repeat button is good as well.
