The Dangerous Respiratory Illness Outbreak in the UK #cough. Imagine a highly contagious respiratory illness that starts off with symptoms similar to the common cold: a runny nose, sneezing, and a mild cough. As the illness progresses, the cough becomes more severe, often characterized by a distinctive "whooping" sound as the infected person struggles to breathe between coughing fits. These fits can be so intense that they lead to vomiting or exhaustion. The condition primarily affects infants and young children, posing a significant risk of complications such as pneumonia or brain damage. It spreads through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, making it crucial to practice good hygiene and get vaccinated to prevent its transmission. This highly contagious disease, also known as pertussis, can have serious consequences if left untreated. Pertussis can lead to severe respiratory distress, especially in infants, whose airways are smaller and more vulnerable. Additionally, the coughing fits can be exhausting and debilitating, causing sleep disturbances and affecting overall quality of life. #infection #babies

My oldest caught whooping cough at 7 months old. She was in the hospital for 2 weeks. I will NEVER forget her wheezing and would never wish it on ANYONE. Get your vaccines people!

My aunt and uncle caught this somehow! They are both vaccinated, and it was a mystery for months (who is suspecting whooping cough in two healthy adults??) but they were very sick. Turns out it was pertussis.

My mum's friend had this as a kid. It's no joke. To this day, when she gets a cough it lasts the same time that it does for everyone else, but it is just as bad as when she had whooping cough.

I wasn't given the vaccine for whooping cough until my son was born. I ended up getting it and a few others while recovering from labor in the hospital.

I had an antivax mom so I got whooping cough at 15. It was brutal and scary because I would be okay and then would cough until I felt like passing out. I got vaccinated as an adult. I really recommend it.

Me with my asthma: I already have a milder version of that every year.

Even so, yeh I don’t want what they have.

In the US, this vaccine is typically a 3 for 1: Tdap: tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (pertussis being whooping cough). I'd guess it's similar in the UK?

Pineapple juice has a substance in it that can help suppress coughs. I was coughing so hard I was sick and couldn't sleep one day when I was sick, It was like four AM and I couldn't sleep because of this cough. I began to look for solutions because I was literally getting sick over it, found pineapple juice, would've tried anything atp -- drank it, cough was GONE. Slept finally. Pineapples are the holy grail fr

Heads up if you WERE vaccinated as a child: check when you need a refresher dose. I didn't, GOT whooping cough in my 20s and can say that even a mild form really sucks with occasional inability to breathe for some seconds. It was mild because apparently some last residues of my childhood vaccination were still in play.

September of 2019 I actually had this and it sucked!! I completely lost my voice for 3 months and dislocated my ribs a few times after a super crazy coughing fits. I only took a little time off from work and was in the process of moving. By the end of January I finally got my voice back and the coughing settled down.
My voice hasn't been the same since and I can't really scream anymore.
Thank you for sharing your amazing videos and life with us all 💙

Sending everyone good karma and hope you all have a wonderful day!! ☺️💕🇨🇦🤙

I got rushed into hospital as a baby with this. I couldn’t shut it. My Mum told me she had a nightmare with doctors as they thought she was just over resting but I was having coughing guys and coughing up blood. They dismissed it at three doctors emergency appointments. The forth time she took me in while we were waiting for the doctor I had a really bad coughing fit and started coughing up blood they took me straight into a room to be checked again they rang an ambulance and was in hospital for two weeks.

I don't know about the vaccine nor do I live in the UK infact I am from Pakistan and my brother started having this cough and slowly my family started having it but I got it worse...Initially it was nothing major but then it turned into full blown " oh my god I can't even breath" type of coughs and now I vomit severals times a day and feel sudden muscle ache after coughing....It literally makes me cry because no hospital was able to tell me whats wrong with me and now seeing this video justs makes me cry cuz now I do know that there is genuinely something wrong with me

I got whooping cough in my 20’s - I did get the childhood vaccine and booster but still got really sick. Even after I was no longer infectious I had to deal with five months of coughing every 30 seconds or feeling like I was going to suffocate. How I didn’t lose my job is an absolute miracle.
