i would like to address the Elephant in the room. at least, the one in MY room: yes, EA did a good one for once with this platform thing WE NEED LOFTS. imagine if we could delete the walls in the platforms, and keep the floor so there could actually be different heights in a same room.

Actually yes, that is a thing. Putting fireplaces on 'platforms', actually called "mantels", is a very common find in 60's - 80's houses. My dad's house has a huge mantel in the living room.
