Recorded live at the Downey Theatre in Downey, LA on June 27, 2008 during Liquid Tension Experiment's 10th Anniversary Reunion Tour. This is from the Blu-ray that was only available in the Liquid Tension Experiment Live 2008 - Limited Edition Boxset, which is now out of print and extremely difficult to find.

Liquid Tension Experiment (LTE) was an instrumental progressive metal band founded by Mike Portnoy, then Dream Theater's drummer, in 1997. The band has released two albums , Liquid Tension Experiment (1998) and Liquid Tension Experiment 2 (1999) on Magna Carta Records.

Portnoy first invited keyboardist Jordan Rudess and progressive rock icon Tony Levin (bass, Chapman Stick) of King Crimson and Peter Gabriel's band to join him. In his instructional video "Liquid Drum Theater", Portnoy said that his first choice for the guitar was Dimebag Darrell, but he was unable to join because of conflicting schedules. Two other primary choices, Steve Morse (Dixie Dregs, Kansas, Deep Purple) and Jim Matheos (Fates Warning) were also unavailable. Portnoy then turned to fellow Dream Theater member John Petrucci to fill the position (despite initially wanting to keep the project completely separate from Dream Theater). The combo was formed as a side project to Dream Theater in 1997. Both Mike and John confirmed on the 5 Years in a Livetime DVD commentary, that Rudess was asked to join Dream Theater largely because of the success of Liquid Tension Experiment, and the chemistry of the three working together. Rudess had previously declined to join Dream Theater in 1994 and instead became a member of the Dixie Dregs, known for complex, "Southern fusion" instrumental music. After the LTE collaboration, in 1999 Rudess was again asked to join Dream Theater. He agreed, and has been Dream Theater's keyboard player ever since.

Tony Levin - Chapman Stick, Bass
John Petrucci - Guitar
Mike Portnoy - Drums, Percussion
Jordan Rudess - Keyboards

That impro by Jordan Rudes in Universal Mind is one of the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Every member of this group is the best at what they do, but this was something special. So many influences from Gershwin, Chopin, Liszt, modern jazz, and so much more, while staying in key and navigating threw all the relatives, and more that I can ever understand. Absolutely insane.

Every member looking at Petrucci in Acid Rain's amazing solo like:
"Easy, Johnnie: We are still playing the first song of the show..."

Beethoven would be proud……………. Of these guys, not all that other garbage you see on the mainstream these days. I’m glad that you’re all here and have excellent taste in music. We gotta spread this kinda music like the gospel. These guys are proof that a God does exist.

I was always more enamored with Dream Theater's instrumental material than the vocal stuff. Then I discovered LTE....VOILA!

Freedom of Speech has a magnificent drumming. Mr Portnoy always amazing me since DT till LTE.

Tony Levin brings many incredible lines, that's so satisfying listening to his bass.

Jordan just cant be described. He improvisation while they have technical difficulties (ba tum ts) was amazing, and I personally think he's the most melodic player there.

Mr John Petrucci, are you human at all? Insane precision, nice groove, creative and the kindness in person.

I wonder if John Petrucci will met Kiko Loureiro. Even John himself would not believe how amazing his technique is.

Thank you for 1080p, I'm teaching myself how to play drums and being able to *see* live recordings is amazing. Portnoy is almost too good. The bitrate seems a bit low but it isn't that bad. <3
