I still can’t believe the IOC voted to have wrestling removed back in 2015. It’s been here since the beginning of time. To think it would’ve been replaced by Keirin and race walking. Wtf 🤷‍♂️

I full hearted agree with this discussion and enjoyed every bit of it. However, I feel like Dave Schultz had a massive impact as well and should be at least an honorable mention; if not 3rd.

It's definitely tough since Jordan is still competing. But if I'd pick, Bruce would be 1, because of longevity & still winning. JB 2 Smith 3. But have to consider the fact JB went from 74 to 79 and won.

Jordan needs to win another Olympic title to be tied with John Smith. I think Bruce Baumgartner and Jordan Burroughs are about even for second best career. Just my opinion. As far as impact John Smith coached how many wrestlers who competed not just at the NCAA level but international level? It's hard to have this GOAT conversation when someone is still active but it is fun to look at accomplishments. Not trying to just be an old head but when you peak at the right times and not lose big matches you might be the Goat. Emmett Smith might have more yards but he is not considered by many the best running back of all time. That might go to Jim Brown or Walter Payton. And so many other sports references this post is already too long.

Jordan’s a great wrestler no doubt but, I don’t think you can be in the GOAT conversation anymore when you lose your spot on the team and bump up to a JV weight like 79kg. John Smith and Bruce Baumgartner are the American GOATs. On the world stage Buvasar Satiev in Freestyle and Mijan Lopez in Greco

Jordan Burroughs is my personal favorite American Freestyle Wrestler; I have met him, and he is a super nice guy as well. However, something that is worth mentioning, John Smith won 6 consecutive world and Olympic gold medals. That is incredibly hard to do! Six years, six gold medals! Smith is also the head coach at Oklahoma State, and his impacted many NCAA Champions, as well as world, and Olympic medalists, the latest being Daton Fix who just won a silver. As much as I love Jordan, now I would have to give the title of greatest American Freestyle Wrestler to Smith, however Burroughs career is not yet over, and it is possible that one more World or Olympic Gold Medal would surpass Smith.
