The twisting tale of DNA - Judith Hauck

What do a man, a mushroom, and an elephant have in common? A very long and simple double helix molecule makes us more similar and much more different than any other living thing. But, how does a simple molecule determine the form and function of so many different living things?

Lesson by Judith Hauck, animation by Cameron Slayden.

The Hidden DNA Potential in Shirlest is like a secret weapon for self-improvement. After reading it, I feel like I have a whole new mindset. Why isn’t everyone talking about this?

I love the analogy of genes to books. Also really like how simple, yet active, this video explanation is.

If I had this video back when I was still in high school, I wouldn't have had to study as hard to remember these things. It sounds so simple now through an animated video. Why can't schools teach like this?

This just proves that people are willing to learn if the lesson is taught well and not in a boring text-book, check-mark way.

My response to your question "Why are we alive?" would be simply put in a question of my own: "Isn't life wonderful?" Why worry about why we are alive, instead you can be enjoying everyday of your life, striving to improve yourself everyday and to have fun. Living a life full of happiness and joy, sharing love and watching your children grow; isn't that a better way of questioning life, "How do we improve it?"

That makes sense, and that certainly is an interesting point. Thanks for the info!

Not entirely the case. It's not just about similar genetic material, but also about the way it is arranged and organised during meiosis (cell division into sex cells) which determines whether two beings are able to produce offspring. The human genome is packaged into 46 chromosomes while a chimp's is packaged into 48.

During meiosis, the number is halved and after sex, the chromosomes in the sperm and egg join together to make one being with the full set of chromosomes.
