Our picks for best baby monitors of 2019, why they're great, what you need to know. Plus 3 popular but not-so-good monitors.

Here's what we cover in this video:

To arrive at our picks for top baby monitors of 2019, we've done in-depth testing of dozens of baby monitors including both wifi baby monitors and traditional monitors.

We test monitors across a number of attributes, including picture quality, sound quality, ease of use, and standout features.

We'll show you our top 3 picks, why all 3 of our top picks are wifi baby monitors (meaning they connect via wifi and use a phone app as the parent unit), and the 3 features shared by all 3 of our top 3 baby monitors of 2019.

Next, we discuss three popular but not particularly good baby monitors (one of which, the Nest Cam, isn't even a baby monitor, even though a lot of people wish it was!). We'll explain the flaws in each of these you need to watch out for.

Finally, we'll discuss our giveaways of our winner for the best baby monitor of 2019!

I have loved our infant optics, it has been 3 years now and it never failed us. It has been through multiple drops and it is still going strong. It may not have a good resolution but it is a good baby monitor.
Anyways, I love this content. Watching this coz it just goes to my recommended videos and it intrigues me. Lol!

@Fathercraft - I have done lots of searching and reading reviews and bought and returned multiple monitors, and we continue to use the Infant Optics DXR-8. I'll tell you why.

Of all the different ones we've tried, each had its own quirks that would compromise something important... whether it be latency, lack of connecting, time to activate, ease of use etc... but with the DXR-8, it just works!

All of the wifi versions we've tried had problems with connecting or providing notifications accurately or even at all! Many work well on apple products, but don't care to put as much focus on android platform... this is made very clear, and to me shows they aren't trying... or don't care.

With that said, did you also test on android platform and have the same experience? I think that is very key to note.
With the DXR-8 (for example) it doesn't matter what phone you have, or how expensive your phone is, or if your router is up to par and provides reliability as well. These systems are fully packaged with no need for other technology to be 100% reliable.

I'm not sure about most of the people out there, but I don't want to have to wonder if: my wifi signal is strong, if my router crashed, if my ISP is having issues, etc etc.
I only worry about if I hear something on my standalone, dedicated baby monitor. Something I don't want to multi-task.
So... back to my point... erm after an un-intended rant... before you say something is bad, perhaps you should first look into why it's bad FOR YOU, and not broadcast your opinion as fact.

I will say the summer monitor I got from Walmart for $100 is solid. Good video and audio and nice big prop up screen to see your LO.

Thank you for making a simple and clear video review of the baby monitors! I get tired with so much build up to the content and I enjoy that you have tidbits of fun and your own personality without taking a long time to tell us about the products!

I never thought about the monitoring limitations of the Nest cam. I've definitely removed it from my list due to your advice.
