This animation shows one molecule of water completing the hydrologic cycle. Heat from the sun causes the molecule to evaporate from the ocean's surface. Once it evaporates, it is transported high in the atmosphere and condenses to form clouds. Clouds can move great distances and eventually the water molecule will fall as rain or snow. Ultimately, the water molecule arrives back where it started...at the ocean.

we are learning about water and my teacher put this on to show us how it rains and thanks for doing this because i need to do it for my home work

This ocean is like a Wall Street banker, it gives away a little, but in the end it gets it all back no matter what.

Nice animation! However, it seems that a rather glaring omission here is the effect of trees on the water cycle. As I understand it, onshore breezes encountering tree belts form horizontal Ekman spirals which cause condensation and bands of rain to occur. Trees and other vegetation intercept the falling rain and cause re-evaporation, and along with transpiration they put a LOT of water back into the air. This happens over and over as the wind moves inland, and by the uppermost point the vast majority of the water in the air is due to trees. Your original water molecule would not likely make it anywhere near the top, it would have dropped out early on. Where the trees have been logged off, especially near the coast, the rain disappears farther up, the mountains lose their cloud cover (as in Hawaii now), and so on.
