A caged car on the street can be quite dangerous in a crash, as your head may strike the cage without a helmet. In the case of your kids, that cage may significantly harm them even in a low speed crash. Foam padding only slows very slow deceleration. Nice build either way!

Did you fabricate the latch for the seat or was it bought, I plan to do the same set up for my e30, along with the bar hinge. Any insight or help I could get would be honestly amazing!

Great video! What brand of cage is this? Also, does it touch the roof and interfere with the sunroof? The PO of my e30 put a half cage in kind of like this and it makes using the sunroof hard because it touches the top and compresses it a little.
