The History of Blacklisted Items in Hypixel Skyblock

Hello there, today we present you a brief history of the blacklisted items in Skyblock, Why they we re blacklisted and what happens if you don't keep them contained...

Items with UUIDs - Apparently, this isn't just a legendary rarity thing, alot of items do have UUIDs that aren't legendary too, although it is much more common in higher rarity items for obvious reasons.

Banners - Hypixel doesn't actually run on 1.8.9, rather it runs on 1.7.10 and uses alot of plugins to implement features that arent normally in 1.7, like prismarine and guardians. Banners are a feature in 1.8, not 1.7, and I assume the Hypixel developers never coded banners to work on a 1.7 server due to the huge complexity of all of the item data a banner has, with the only exceptions being the decorative banners used in a dungeon room and on Oringo's hut, which would also explain why they can't be crafted.

When players did obtain a banner, the telekinesis enchant likely didn't copy any of the banner's data and made it a basic black banner, to which there would be nothing hard coded in Hypixel's plugins to deal with this on 1.7, effectively making it an invalid item with an ID that doesn't exist. When you hold this item in lower versions, the game doesn't know how to render it and will throw a bunch of OpenGL errors which ultimately causes all other rendered parts of Minecraft to render incorrectly for whatever reason.

The reason players in higher versions (1.13+) can hold this item is that the way Minecraft deals with item IDs was completely changed and instead assumes all invalid items to just be stone, so nothing weird happens, whereas older versions did not have this fallback.

To recreate this glitch, I loaded up a 1.16.5 server with the ViaBackwards plugin, which is a plugin that allows older versions to connect to new servers, and with some help from @musava_ribica, I slightly modified the plugin so that magma blocks would have no code to make them work on lower versions, so that magma blocks would behave exactly like the glitched banners did.

STEPS TO RECREATE THE GLITCH ON YOUR OWN SERVER!
1. Load up a Spigot 1.16.5 server
2. Download ViaVersion 3.2, ViaBackwards 3.2 and ViaRewind 1.5.2 (google the plugin names, should be easy to find)
3. Install 7-zip
4. Right click ViaBackwards 3.2 - 7-zip - Open Archive
6. Choose any of these items that you want to be the glitched block, then delete ALL of the data there, between the brackets and the number before it.
e.g. delete all of the data that looks like this:

7. Save the file, then click Ok on the box that pops up
8. Drag all 3 .jar files to the plugin folder of your server
9. Restart your server. Whatever item you deleted from that file will now become the glitched item. Hold it whilst you're in 1.16.5 whilst a friend joins on 1.8.9, and they will see the bug themself.

6:45 Quick correction, Hypixel doesn't run on 1.8, it runs on 1.7 (an admin has confirmed it in the past). The reason Hypixel is still running on 1.7 up to this day (but you can't join from 1.7 clients cuz 1.7 gives an advantage in PVP compared to 1.8) is simply because the admins were too lazy to recode everything for 1.8 and thought it was easier to add 1.8 features to their 1.7 servers themselves. Banners were one of those features since banners don't exist in 1.7. The admins never coded the banner item which is why it's so buggy. They only coded the placed banner block.

I love it when youtubers talk about things they know nothing about.

1. Banners, are, not, blacklisted. They never have been ever once in the existence of hypixel skyblock.
2. Not only legendary items have uuids, all nonstackable items have uuids like armor and other random stuff, even some common items have uuids
3. written book dupe never worked on hypixel ever due to the way they save islands
4. Netherwart pouch is no different from banners in the way they work and they were obtained by legit just buying it from the npc the first 20 mins of the farming update that added them
