Where are the Champions' Bodies? (Zelda Theory)

Breath of the Wild's four champions were fundamental to the entire game's existence; and because Link can free their spirits by defeating the Blight Ganons that were plaguing their Divine Beasts, we are able to give their dead souls peace at the end of the game. But could it be that something rather malicious was keeping them here in our realm? Join me to find out!

EDIT: Well folks, the newest trailer shows these Blights already fighting the champions 100 years ago. Still though, this was a fun theory to make! Will you be playing the game in 2 days??

"Why would a E10+ game show us dead bodies?"

“Daruk, mipha, urbosa, and that dumb flying one.”
Had me laughing VERY hard

I think that the blights had no elemental power to begin with, but after defeating the champions the malice absorbed their dead bodies and honed and concentrated their powers and twisted them to their own dark purposes. As for the spirits, I would say they were trapped inside the blights, forced to help defeat link against their will.

Regarding the idea that "it's strange that Ganon would send each blight to fight the champion who uses that same element"

Well no, not really.
It's a typical case of "I'm you, but better."

This theory got real dark, real fast.

I wasn’t ready to be traumatized today, and yet here we are.

"Why would an E10+ game show us dead bodies?"
Me, who has seen Link die multiple times: *I have not only experienced dead bodies, but I have also experienced death itself.*

I mean, this is a solid theory. Especially if you take into account that each of the champions state that their spirits are now free after you defeat the blights.

I think the blight's hair is what had made me question this initially, since fireblight has spiked hair tufty things like Daruk, windblight has braides like Ravioli, waterblight has a lock on left and right (fins), then hair flowing down behind (tail) like Mipha, then thunderblight has longish hair like Urbosa

This actually makes a lot of sense considering the fact that if I remember correctly each Divine Beast had to be piloted by that individual Champion that was chosen for them so no one else including Gannon could have controlled them without controlling their body

I love how he called Revali, “the dumb flying one.” Lol.

the interesting thing is...i can actually sort of see this as a possibility. the blights all KINDA match their champions' physique, and the champion ability part lines up. maybe that's why it's so important that the blights are masked; to hide the grotesquely decayed and malice-coated faces of the deceased champions within.

After doing all 4 of the divine beast i wish they had it so that, in the deepest and darkest parts of each divine beasts, the champions were bound to the wall by malice almost dead being forcefully kept alive in order to use them to control the beasts. Although this would be way to dark for this game.

That's why Ganon wasn't able to fully control de Divine Beasts: because the champions, their pilots, were resisting his mind control

on my second playthrough I realized that all of the blights imitate the weapons of the champions, mipha’s trident and waterblights spear, urbosas shield and sword matches thunderblight...

my theory at the time was that the blights modeled themselves after the champions they faced since they were the only people they could reference when making their bodies...but who knows!

We did NOT get to witness the champions' deaths, but we got a sick fan-fic.
