Kolkata doctor rape and murder: Doctors across India continue strike

Doctors in Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru staged a protest on August 12 in response to the brutal rape and murder of a resident doctor in Kolkata on August 9. The indefinite strike is being called to demand immediate action and protection for all healthcare workers and the doctors. They urged for an immediate and transparent probe by the CBI. Over the past three days, junior doctors had been attending to emergency duties, but as of August 12 morning, they have ceased even those responsibilities. Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Dr Sandip Ghosh has resigned from his post amid protest by junior doctors, interns, and postgraduate trainees over the rape and murder of a woman doctor.
