8-year-old boy survives in wilderness after being separated from family for two days

8-year-old Nante Niemi was found in Michigan’s Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park 48 hours after he disappeared while gathering firewood for his family’s camp. The lost boy was discovered sheltering under a log. NBC News’ Anne Thompson shares the extraordinary survival story.

He knew to eat clean fresh snow for The smarts of this kid to keep his head under that situation. Its a big mean world out there and this little man just did two nights in it. Wow man.... My brother and I were lost in the porcupine mountains for 24 hours. I was 7 and my brother was 12. I'm 44 now and still remember it like it was yesterday. So glad this young man survived and was found!

Glad he was found safe and alive!!❤❤❤❤❤❤. Please give your kids a whistle if you go camping and teach them to stay where they're at if they're lost( hug a tree) and blow the whistle periodically. Parents should have one also along with rest of the kids. So very glad there was a happy outcome ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

If lost ….stay where you are do not move. The more you move the more lost you will become. I got lost in state part when I was 11 years old for 6 hours. When the ranger found me I had walked almost 3 miles in the opposite direction. If I had waited just 30 minutes I would have heard people yelling my name. I’m glad this boy was found.
