Rex and many of the named clones they made for TCW brought something different to the idea of what clone troopers were. They showed that even though they were all born and trained the same way, they didn't always turn out to be carbon copies of the Jango we saw in AOTC. I am happy with the change even if seeing colder clones every once in awhile would have been cool.

In my lore, A-17 is Rex. Anakin just gave him a name because it’s more personal, and Anakin felt a sense of friendship toward Rex. For Rex, it was a great honor to carry his own name, and he liked Anakin as well, so he carried the name with honor and as a sign of respect for Anakin.

Imagine Alpha-17 with Rex' character. Bro, some scenes would go insanely hard like the battle of Umbara or when he and Ahsoka fought their way through the ship during order 66. Just imagine him and Wrecker in that scene when Rex walked into his face for messing with him when they tried to find Echo.

Honestly, I find it baffling that George Lucas would have a problem with everyone having A names, because then you could refer to the 501st as "The A-Team." Missed opportunity, seriously!

I'm glad they made that change. Rex is a great character that saw a lot of growth over the series. He had his hardships and traumas, and he became an empathetic, free-thinking, stronger person. He's more than just an unthinking, unfeeling clone.

Rex is the King.
