This shorts clip shows a chimney crown/cement cap that was sealed with a flexible crown sealant. This chimney repair shouldn't of happened this way because the cement below was already deteriorating with chunks of cement falling off onto the roof.

You do not want a mortar cap, It can't take the elements, and the the water will drain down the sides of the chimney. A concrete cap with a 2" over hang with a cut in drip edge underneath
