Pete Magadini - Elvin Jones Ride Cymbal Pattern

Here is my interpretation of the "inside" of the ride cymbal pattern of one of the most creative and "deep" jazz drummers of all times, Elvin Jones. I began listening to Elvin in the late 50's and caught maybe 50 shows through the years ( starting with Coltrane and then many with his own band "The Jazz Machine") and I also own many recordings. If you are a musician (any kind of music) and also happen to play drums - then I suggest to do yourself a favor and begin exploring the genius of Elvin Jones. He was a major inspiration to the creation of my books on the subject of Polyrhythms. I hear so many roots in African drumming in his playing. This clip comes from my Hal Leonard DVD "Jazz Drums"
