After a year of silence following the departure of ATLA creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko from the project, we have finally got some news about Netflix’s impending, non-animated version of the series. The streaming giant recently revealed a new showrunner and writer in experienced producer Albert Kim, gave us a list of producers and directors, and the names and roles of the core cast...
So let’s take a look at the new stars of the series and dive into their credits and backgrounds. We’ve got Kiawentiio and Ian Ousley as the brother and sister duo from the Southern Water Tribe, Katara and Sokka, Dallas Liu as the scarred and traumatized part-time villain, Prince Zuko, and finally newcomer Gordon Cormier as the little boy out of time who is fated to master and unify the four elements: Ang. Together they make up a strong cast who should give nervous fans a little respite from the troubled production of the series so far.
The series adapts the wildly popular three season Nickelodeon animated show from 2005. The original has sustained its popularity over the past fifteen years, despite a disastrous and poorly received big screen version from M. Night Shyamalan, and it’s exciting for fans to finally have some fresh information on the new take. We’ll also take a look at some words from Albert Kim about his background with the original show and what he hopes to achieve for both existing fans and a whole new generation of viewers.
