An Isaac Watts text set to music from Gluck's Iphigénie en Aulide (Chorus: “Que d’attraits”) in the 1819 Original Collection of Psalm Tunes (Arthur Clifton).
Hymn tunes were one of European classical music’s chief conduits to American audiences through the mid-19th century. Hymn adaptations of Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and others appeared by the hundreds in antebellum hymnals.
