Willow Bark Medicine, Magic and More...

Willow Medicine:
Willow bark has been used for thousands of years as an anti-inflammatory, antipyretic (fever), and analgesic (painkiller).
Therapeutically, willow bark can provide relief to those suffering from back pain, recurring headaches, muscle pains, menstrual cramps, arthritis symptoms and more.
Willow bark contains a chemical called salicin which works in similar ways as aspirin. It also contains glycosides, polyphenols, flavonoids, tannins, and other antioxidants, which support its anti-inflammatory and immune protective properties.
Some other uses for Willow are as a digestive tonic, blood thinner, diuretic and as an antiseptic for eyewashes, dandruff, eczema, wound care, and gargle for sore throats and gums.

Willow Magic:
Willow also has a rich history of magical uses.
It is one of the seven sacred Irish trees as well as sacred to many old world northern European cultures.
Willow is considered to be ruled by the moon and associated with dreaming, finding deeper insight, enchantments, and spellbinding.
It was believed to work on the emotional level, helpful for moving out of negative states, enhancing awareness of deeper purpose and protecting one from harmful outside influences.

Willow More:
This video shares my personal experience and insights, ID and harvesting tips, as well as practical ways to make Willow into Medicine.
Willow is a "people plant" that grows all throughout the world in many forms. It is easy to work with, and its relative abundance makes it a relatively sustainable plant to harvest from the wildlands.

Willow Safety:
Although it’s generally safe, white willow bark extract taken in high doses can cause side effects including increased bleeding, skin rashes, itching, and upset stomach. Allergic responses are also possible among individuals who are sensitive to salicin.

I hope you enjoy this video and get out to make your own personal connection with willow this year.

I enjoy the holistic approach to the teachings here. The practical, natural and spiritual combined, the way it’s supposed to be.

My great aunt had beautiful teeth. As a child I was impressed enough to ask how she took care of her (70 year old) teeth. She said willow bark toothpicks.

My husband wanted me to tell you that the potato peeler worked great to skin the bark. Thanks for the great video!

I use willow instead of hormone rooting compound .Cut green willow wands into small pieces place in hot water leave tea to draw the longer the stronger it gets. It is good for hard to root plants place plant stems in the tea and wait for roots also good as root tonic. Great channel.

I live on a wetland and love-- and weave with-- willow. My weaving teacher said the time test for peeling-- 'stripping'-- the willow (to make white rods) is when the emerging leaves are the size of a mouse's ear. This is when the sap is running such that one needs only to skritch and pick loose the bark at the bottom of a cut rod and pull it up and off! Before or after this window works, with varying results, but it is very slick and satisfying to catch it at that time and be able to quickly strip the rods with comparatively little effort.
Thank you for this, and all your educational and inspiring videos.

You should have a white jacket on and call yourself ‘Dr. of the Land’! Seriously, your vocabulary and knowledge of herbs is astounding! Thank you for all your studying and keeping us safe with what herbs to use and let herbs to stay away from.

Willow makes a great natural "rooting harmone" for rooting plants. My favorite tree is the #willow

As a child, I was very drawn to the willow growing along the waters edge in Big Bear Lake California. While listening to you describe it, I could actually smell the willows from back in those days.. yes very destictive smell now I understand why! I just had to start eating aspirin everyday (due to back pain) for the first time in my Life so it's great to learn about this and how to make tincture.. thank you so much for creating & sharing this information

Pussy Willow is traditionally used in floral displays during the Lunar New Year in East Asia. What I didn't know is the Pussy Willow has Salicin in them. Rather than dump them out at the end of new year celebrations, I will now instead, strip the bark, dry it and keep it for emergency pain relief. Thanks for the tip, mate!

I am FNMI & I find your videos very nice, you speak in a calm & respectful way, not those text to speech devices, not bright flashy energy going for views, just someone in the woods talking about something they know

Wow!! Since I bought a little piece of land in the country last spring I fell in love with willow. I have not yet tried it as medicime but encountered it as a powerful plant spirit that has many lessons for us humans. Hearing you talk about it in such a beautiful way really brightened my day. Thank you willow-tribe brother. May we all be blessed with sweet medicine from this ancient plant teacher. 🌓
