This is actually something phantom pilots would do when they fought mig21s, when I was a little kid I would hear stories from a retired air force colonel who few in Vietnam, he said if a mig was on their six they would point the nose up and into the vertical and the mig wouldn’t be able to follow. Then come back down on top of them. Unfortunately he passed away from colon cancer when back in the early 2000’s. I didn’t know him well because I was so young, but every chance I get to meet a old vet I take the time out of my day to listen to their stories, a lot of them just want someone to talk to.
