Life has been especially hard for those in the western part of North Carolina since Hurricane Helene struck last week, leaving residents without access to food and water, and claiming the lives of countless victims due to unprecedented flash flooding and fallen debris. During this week's podcast episode, Frank sits down with Dr. Clay Jones (instructor of the upcoming OCC course 'Why Does God Allow Evil?') and Dan Hodges (CrossExamined Board Director and Hurricane Helene survivor) to discuss the problem of evil and some of the heartbreaking stories emerging in light of the recent storm.

A very sobering gut check.I remember several years ago a tornado I think blew through a church and a little girl had been found dead in the pew with a hymnal in her hands.That is tough.
And the horrific things that are happening to christians in other countries.All of these things cause an intense re-evaluation of everything.Thank you for being honest and not trying to sugarcoat the situation or coming up with some made up answer to pacify these serious questions of God or the Bible.Clay 🙏💟

When we lived in Houston a tornado hit our home and totally destroyed our home, but our two children and myself (husband at work) got up off of the floor after laying in the hallway praying and we were alive. God told my spirit, … “it rains on the just and unjust and He would make us the head and not the tail”. God is God!

I appreciate Dr. John Lennox's assessment of evil in the world, "Beauty and barbed wire". We see the extent of both ends of people's propensity. There can be great beauty and compassion and the opposite end the barbed wire of moral evil.

I love to hear that the people affected in those states are coming together, when the government so obviously tried to get rid of them, and still refuses to help them, even denying them help that individuals are trying to give…I can’t wait to see the good God brings from this whole situation.

I have been struggling with this very thing. It’s caused me in the past to stop praying.

Many of our "why God" questions won't be answered here. Ultimately, only He knows but we know He's good, holy and righteous in all His ways. We, with all our flaws, limited information and limited understanding of the grand scope of all things are in no position to judge Him. Just as we ask our children to trust us when they can't understand our decisions, so God requires that of us. But He's there to provide the grace, aid and comfort to help us through it. Sometimes, that has to be enough. God doesn't owe anyone explanations.

People will question why God allows evil but the secular world never asks why people do it, enjoy it and can't stop.
Probably because the answers will lead to the sin nature and ultimately God.
No matter how much "progress" this world allegedly makes, people still do the same things they've always done. There's nothing new under the sun.

This world constantly reminds us that this is not our home. In fact, it's no ones home. We're all just passing through here. No one has a permanent stay.
This is a fallen world that will one day be redeemed but for now, there's no guarantees for anyone, we will all suffer to some extent and the gospel message is to do something about that now. Get right with God while you can. This place is but a moment in eternity. Eternity is where we get to decide what kind of life we'll have.
Repent and trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior while you can because any one of us could be facing our last day for any number of causes. Be ready and choose wisely.

With the advent of the medical solution for the recent Virus. I saw how quickly a person could turn their back on human life similar to Germany in WW2. In regards to the abortion issue. Any society that can decide that one life isn't worth living can at another moment decide that anyone that they group doesn't seem to like could have their life taken.
