One company, Thunder Tiger Group, is ready to roll out the island's first unmanned submarine this year. Just waste of money. There is no logic for Taiwan to go on military, simply not winnable. Your best chance is maintaining status Quo by not doing sth that is suggesting otherwise. mid 80-90 when China is weak, even the UK know, there is no way UK could defend HK once Deng Xiaoping demanded it back, not to mentioned the current China and given Taiwan is an island.

If i was a small nation protecting myself i would deploy multiple UAV ard the island like mines but at the bottom of the ocean and lie dormant like rocks. That's cute but the U.S. navy has 79 nuclear subs and has mines installed in the Taiwan straight that can detect a specific Chinese navy ships propeller noise and then unhook from the bottom of the ocean and turn into a torpedo that locks on and takes out the boat. Long story short, the U.S. navy can easily take out the entire PLA navy and any other boats they send before they get even half way to Taiwan.
