L.A. fire officials could have deployed 35 more water-carrying engines and an additional thousand firefighters in the Palisades when that fire started, but they only utilized 5 fire engines. Please take a look at the new L.A. Times investigation for details.

For those who will have difficulty rebuilding, I would like to seriously propose something. All through the US there are dying rural areas, with abandoned houses and business buildings available. Would it be possible to have states create incentive programs to fill those dying rural areas with people who need a home and help them bring the abandoned properties up to to code? People could get a leg up to restart and rebuild their lives and refilling dying communities with an influx of new families could jump start those dying towns economically as well. Especially if the towns are relatively close to bigger metro areas for jobs. It could be a win-win for displaced people and revitalize dying communities. Oklahoma and Arkansas are full of dying rural communities that have abandoned buildings, and these victims of the fires need a way to get back into homes. The cost of living is also much lower in those areas as well. Maybe a reverse migration could help?
