Predator 224 gets a cast aluminum flywheel
Did some speed runs with the predator 224 powered Coleman cc100x minibike with a Tillotson 212e flywheel? And then swapped out the flywheel for a lightweight cast-aluminum flywheel to see if it would make any difference in performance.

The cast aluminum flywheel has the full size cooling fins too. It’s a steal for what you get.
Thanks so much for doing all of these mods and videos.
You are the best small block engine modder and tester on YouTube.

Another AWESOME video, It is good to see that you hand lap the flywheel on, when done right, you don't even need a keyway, set it with a degree wheel, Torque it down, and you are good to go. keep the vids coming

Those Tillotson cast aluminum flywheels are a great bang for your buck for the quality. Plus someone has spun one up to 10k for a long time privately. The downside is they come with only 18 degrees of advance. Granted even though most cams call for 32 34 a 12* keyway will get you to 30.

Also that cast aluminum flywheels probably the cheaper alternative for people who don't wanna spend the money on the ARC but need the Safety of it

Still very impressive numbers. and now the safety is there. I run the same flywheel on one of my predators.Once again thanks for all the info

I have an important question: Would you still be able to run the coils for a headlight output with this flywheel?

I bought the same flywheel and gapped it at .03. For some reason my bike wont stay running longer than a few seconds. It starts and runs fine then just dies shortly after. Im wondering if my charging magnets inside (which i dont need because im not running a light) is causing this issue

Where can I find that crankshaft locking tool?

Good video, that cast flywheel seems to be a much better fit for that Predator 224. :)

The 2 flywheels may have different timing. My stock clone flywheels and PVL flywheel are timed to 28 BTDC. The genuine GX200 cast aluminum flywheel I had was timed at 22 BTDC. The flywheel you have there looks like a copy of the GX200 aluminum. Is it timed the same?

Put an ARC flywheel on there and get the timing the same as the 212e flywheel then test it.

That sure is a nicely modified 224. It seems like upgrading the stock flywheels on most of the predators and other clones is a must do for anyone who is going to be removing the governor and plans on running at RPM's. Do you run tachometers on your engines? Your videos are great and really show the viewer what works but I haven't seen any significant problems in any of them yet. Have you experienced any major malfunctions with any of your engines....flywheel throwing magnets, spun bearings, catastrophic engine failures? I would be really interested to hear about those and I think it could be very useful and entertaining for your subscribers. Maybe you could start uploading a compilation video of "mod's gone wrong", defective products, and bloopers once or twice a year, or however long it takes to document enough mishaps to create a video. I think they would get a lot of views and increase the number of subscribers you have. Just a thought...

Believe it or not I was looking on Amazon for similar flywheels to this and they used a photo from your video to show its use 😂

224 definitely the best sounding predator engine

Do you think moving the coil outwards with shims to center it over the magnet would help?

Love ur vids learn lots from them thanks

Shouldn’t you set the magnet in the flywheel to the coil before doing the feeler gauge to get the accurate spacing? Or is that magnet recessed level with the flywheel?
