Returnal Video Review

Returnal blends elements of shooters, roguelikes, action games, and horror to redefine bullet hell and conjure a mysterious, moody masterpiece.

After reviewing many roguelikes, Mike Epstein sometimes feels like he too is stuck in a loop that punishes his every mistake. He played Returnal for about 25 hours. Despite that, he will almost certainly be back for another run before too long. A review code for the game was provided by the publisher.

86 metascore so far. I think critically this game is a success, Housemarque should be proud and Sony should be pleased. Can't wait to play this myself.

I see many in the comments saying, "I can't believe this game is getting such great reviews and yadda yadda yadda!". To that I ask; what since 2014 has made you think a Sony exclusive will not be good to great? 🤷🏽‍♂️

At this point all game studios should have to do to let you know that their game is going to be at best generational and at worst good is say that their game is a Sony exclusive. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Goty hands down. The most inventive game in so long. Very fun and challenging, always enjoyable! Amazing work from Housemarque. The only thing that I didn’t like were the unbalanced guns…maybe it was made on purpose, but i user almost only 1 gun

This game is phenomenal. If you own a ps5 you have to play this game. Ok so this game is challenging and it doesn't hold your hand or follow the same formula as many other 3rd person shooters but that is kind of the beauty of it.

Made my first time ever review on Returnal for my podcast, and I also gave it a 9/10. Going into it, I was worried I’d be completely off since I don’t have much experience with shooters and roguelites, but it’s nice to see so many reviewer having the same impression! I enjoyed it immensely! 🙌🏻

Housemarque have done a fabulous job with this game. It’s not easy but it’s SO good. Love it, and it looks amazing!
