This is a beautiful song. To me, this is about someone’s inability to accept reality.
Writer – "A"
Person of interest – "B"
“A” reminisces the childhood memories of a friendship with “B”, when there was only the two of them and they loved each other as young friends do. But eventually the love of “A” went further than just friendship and turned into the type of love that “B” did not have for “A”. This put undue pressure on the relationship, and likely drove “B” away. For “B”, it was about the person, about the fun times they had, those memories playing together that was meaningful. On the other hand, “A” developed feelings for “B” that “B” did not have towards “A”, and would never have. This is why “A” says, “Now I see, you and me could never be”. This is only a partial acceptance of reality because "A" takes it back in the second line.

In “A”s mind, they were both of the same mind and heart, both shared the same interests, perspectives, and feelings towards each other ("from the same branch and leaves"). In “B”s mind, they shared a moment in time, but that time was over and after that there would only be fond memories of that time and has since moved on. “A” desperately clings to the notion that “B” shares the same feelings and tries to persuade “B” into acknowledging it as such by saying, “Don’t you see, this is where you want to be”.

Whenever YOU have to tell someone what THEY want, instead of listening to them tell YOU what THEY want, you come from a place of obsession, and not love. Obsessed people confuse their feelings for the way others feel towards them and therefore have a hard time handling the rejection of the person who is the object of their desire. This is because obsessed people ultimately only care for what they want, and not what the other person wants. True love accepts the other person for who they are and respects what that other person wants, even though it might mean losing them forever. Because love means you want the best for the other person, and you put their desires before your own, no matter the cost.

One of my literal favorite songs for good reasons. 🥺✨

1: The tone is calming as it is suspenseful. It tells a story not only in the lyrics but also by its tone. 😌✨ It gives you that storytelling but battling/adventurous vibe! That’s something I look for in many songs!

2: The lyrics...They’re so meaningful and have a heartfelt meaning behind em. Like you’re afraid to let go of someone but the act of letting go does it for you. “Travel back in time.” We’ve all been there. 😔✌️Just have that feeling to rewind to the past and try and relive your memories. THE LYRICS ARE SO BEAUTIFUL!!! 😭🤍💙✨

3: The beat drops- do I really need to explain how boisterous this gets you?- I can’t stop dancing to every beat drop-

4: Your singing voice! It’s so soft as it is trying to choke out every emotion held in there! You definitely managed to pour out feeling but singing in the softest and angelic way possible!!!
