India has a defense relationship with France dating back to the 1970s and it has supported us when the world was against us (eg. it supported us after the 1st nuclear test in 1974).
It is an equally reliable defense supplier like Russia and we should procure more Rafales, jet engine tech and nuclear submarines from it.
These purchases should be done keeping in mind the possibility of a two front war which is very likely. Our fighter strength is much lesser than China itself, not sure how we will tackle the forces of both the countries combined ! Our domestic suppliers simply don't have the capacity and capability to handle so much yet !

After 25 years of research, we are still waiting for the USA, France, or the UK to share the technology of jet engine. Remember, these are precious technologies, and no one will share them completely. If money could buy them, China, which is five times richer than India, would have already acquired them.
