Joe Biden drops out of the US presidential race

US President Joe Biden has formally announced he’s withdrawing from the US presidential election.

In a statement shared to his social media channels from his COVID isolation, he said he believed “it’s in the best interest of his party”.

“It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve as President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” President Biden said in his statement.

President Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him as the Democrat nominee.
