I love the "feel free to do them stylized even if people say it's wrong" and all that because art is really just subjective and what you want to draw and how is the important thing

I've also been referencing that automatic drawing video a lot, haha.. it's great. Anyway, I might have to give this challenge a go. Those sketchbook pages are looking nice!

In all seriousness, artists should prioritize health more. The whole sleep less, draw more is actually far more harmful than helpful in the long run. Sleep is a vital part of learning and the process that helps make sense of everything on a subconscious level. There are many studies conducted on people that sleep vs people with lack of sleep but more practice. The people that sleep performed better every time.

I don’t have a specific source, however if you google the studies on it you can find many and see for yourselves. I think everyone inherently understands this though. But working yourself to death is glorified, especially in the art community. If you absolutely want to draw more while also getting sleep, you’re better off just drawing more while lucid dreaming.

In any case, this is a great challenge. I’ll be joining in on from January 10th.

Did this challenge. Got blown away by my own progress. Now I'm doing it for all body parts.

I did my first 10 heads last night but I didn't know that there was a specific referential Pinterest board so I've been hoarding head images on my own since then. It's such a relief to see that you (and Dani) did the work of finding the references for us. I will do some from there too. Thanks again!

Man, so much great advice packed into this video Ahmed. Time to grab my coffee and sketchbook... but which one to use? Not that one, it's too big. And this one has paper I don't care for. Guess, I should sharpen a bunch of pencils, after all, you can't have too many pencils...sharpened. Now, where's my kneaded eraser? Oops, coffee's cold gotta go warm it up. Think I'll sit for a moment to see what's new on YouTube... HEY! Ahmed has a new video on sketching! Think I'll sit and watch it. Man, I"m so inspired! Time to grab my coffee and sketchbook....

Man, despite taking drawing seriously over the last 5 years and working hard at it constantly I still struggle with motivating myself to actually sit down and complete studies. This is perfect, thanks so much for putting the challenge out there dude.

I have no idea why those BIC mechanical pencils are so nice to draw with. They're my favorite drawing (and writing) mechanical pencils too.

Wow, I needed to hear this, so good to know my art anxieties are so common they are almost normal and better yet to have the wisdom you shared to overcome them. Thanks so much!

Thank you for this. While study and hard work are obviously important, sometimes I feel like EVERYTHING I ever draw/paint needs to be strict, academic, accurate and hyper detailed. That often devastates me, it brings me to the point where I'm not interested in doing piece at all.
Truth to be told, more often than not I prefer my "messy" and "unprofessional" work I drew/sketched out on the spot without any planning, reference, study, etc. Work where I went by gut and feeling... Maybe I should stop feeling guilty and ashamed about that and the blockade will go away...

This is one of the best things I’ve ever done to improve my drawing! The portraits are challenging and I can see progress with each one. I only wish I’d done something like this way back when.

I feel like it was so smart to draw from the mini icons of the figures. I have a tendency to draw really big when working off of one picture, and end up using up a majority of the page. But the way you first did them you were able to fit a lot on the page and the focal point was on the practice overall rather than all the tiny details in each portrait. I love this video and the whole idea, I'm so sad I am only hearing of it now!

There's a bunch of us that you're an icon to. You're a movement creator. An inspirator (try to find a spelling of that word that doesn't result in a red squiggly line.) It says there are 318 comments on this video, but the movement you've created out-number the rats in the sewers of new york.
Thank you, man. Thanks for sharing with us how you try to be your best, so that we can be better. For anyone that's just starting to set improvement as their goal, you're a benefactor.
For anyone that's been working this art for years, you humble us with your tutelage. You are as great a teacher as any.

Been giving this one a go here Ahmed, cause the exercise is great. Thinking of pushing onwards with it to 100 gesture drawings in 10 days, 100 torsos in 10 days etc to really get that flow going.

However one thing i do have to point out about the 100 images on pinterest. A lot of them come from fashion/art shoots and the lighting is very flat/even (which is the correct lighting for that kind of photo) however it makes for a fairly uninteresting portrait unless you make up your own lightsource and shade accordingly.

the zbrush and sculpture pics have been the most enjoyable to draw as they are more defined and the lighting on them is always interesting.

I only wish I could fall in love with drawing again soon. This is a challenge that sparked my interest, after the longest time, so thank you. I love your drawings as well, instant sub!!

I just want to say that the comment about sculpting in your darks, like when you're sculpting with clay actually is really helping me visualize a 3D form better. Thank you. Planning on starting this challenge after I get a few projects done. Thank you.

Very, very challenging. I'm pretty sure my heads will be all failures, but I feel so inclined to do this challenge.
