I also am aware that there have been some new developments in the Alaska/Hawaiian merger since posting this video. It's something we will discuss at some point in the future.

We looked at Alaska’s Domestic First Class product a number of weeks ago from San Francisco to Boston, but there was a couple loose ends… namely the current state of their business class and if it will eventually become a lie flat, or if they’re happy with where it’s at. No better way to discuss that than on their longest flight, and the first time I’ve flown ALASKA Airlines from ALASKA!

One of my favorite perks that Alaska Airlines offers is called Club 49. It’s available to people who have an Alaska address (when they apply) and allows for two free checked bags when flying to or from Alaska. And very little if any extra fees. I’ve found this makes the complete cost of my ticket usually less than with other airlines. And if you purchase your ticket with an AKAirlines Visa you get one free luggage regardless of where you fly.
Having had to fly with other airlines periodically, I’ve found the customer service and flight attendants with AKAirlines to be substantially better. Especially at the Anchorage airport. So friendly, respectful and helpful.

Alaska MISSED at being a category carrier killer after buying Virgin America and NOT using or improving upon it's premium product!! I'm convinced Alaska could create a sub fleet dedicated to long haul only with 4 classes of service. Lie Flat - Premium (existing F class) - Comfort (existing premium econ) and then Economy!

This was a very interesting and fair assessment of Alaska service.

Thank you Patrick for your trip here. Hahaha😊! Yes, the long-haul trips I need the wide body aircraft with the lay flat seats. Being in the middle part of the country the wide-body aircraft are still needed to fly the long-hauls. But I do hope Alaska Airlines works out the perks thst customers want. Also, for me being a former crew member from United Airlines gave me the experience I am glad I have seen the industry.😊

I flew this route in first class over the July 4th weekend and we were served egg salad croissant sandwiches with fruit for breakfast before landing

Im sold on Alaska Airlines. Been flying for 40 years and been on them all. They remind me of a local donut shop that doesn’t have the bacon and Froot Loops on the top…but damn i love being there and what they offer is just right for me.

Slight clarification: It was a hundred years before Alaska became a state after the US bought it. As there are next to no roads/highway connecting major cities/towns in the state, aviation was critical for all necessary activities. And like Gander and Goose Bay in the east, a necessary refuelling stop for commercial aircraft after WW2 crossing the respective ocean.

It's better than Euro-Business, but I don't think there's a 7h flight anywhere in Euro-Business

You raise a good point, I am old enough to remember when the seats in first class were not as hard as a wooden bench, I miss those days.

They are switching to a new version of the same Recarro first class seat, actually. It has a full leg rest. They are also moving the tablet holder from the tray table to the seat back. Also Alaska still flies LA to New York, but to Newark not JFK.

I flew recently with Alaska from Toronto to San Francisco via Seattle.. it was an experience. I think will continue with United or Delta in the future

I flew Alaska "first" to LA or SFO (can't remember) few years ago. It was the best preimium service and food I've had in domestic flights. Even without the flat seats, great experience. Flat seats only needed for the west coast late night departures

I work for Alaska as a ramp agent at SFO, if you fly with us in/out of SFO, you may see me on the ramp

Great video, Patrick! However, I have to point out a few small issues with this video, keep in mind. These are not criticisms merely acknowledgments. First off, Alaska Airlines although not having many 737 MAX 8’s currently has plans for more than 20 on order still with more 737 MAX 9’s also on order. Secondly, Alaska is the United States least populated state simply due to its geography. Given the fact that over 65% of the land is uninhabitable due to inhospitable conditions, mostly being severe winters with lack of food and water, in truth America’s least densely populated state that could actually support more population growth is Wyoming. Third and final point, Anchorage Airport has still continued to grow in airline service, mostly from Alaska Air, but following the Alaska-Hawaiian merger, which has just been approved by the USDOJ Anchorage Airport hopes to pick up a lot moreairlines service especially since Hawaiian Airlines international network is quite extensive. Anchorage hopes there could be flights someday as far as Sydney, Tokyo and Seoul for example, bypassing having to stop in Hawaii if the new Hawaiian-Alaska group acquire some more wide bodies say some more B787s or maybe the B777X perhaps. Overall things for Alaska the state as well as the airline are really looking up and I’m excited to see what the future holds!
Cheers 🥂 my friend,

hey patrick- AS flight attendant here. the compensation for first class flight attendants at alaska isn't actually 2x pay, it's just an additional $2 added onto your base pay. our first class definitely needs a facelift especially considering the fact that premium products in air travel are becoming more and more popular. hope to see you on a future flight! p.s. that burger is fire lol
