Couldn't find a clip of this so I thought I'd upload one myself. I love this scene. He hadn't turned quite the mad guy yet but it's still on it's way. And it's so subtle and eery.

Jack: *I would never do anything to hurt you, ever*

Also Jack: *Danny! I'm coming!*

It's so creepy how he doesn't answer at first. Just stares. It seems like he is first realizing that he doesn't know what he would do.

Idk why but this scene is by far the scariest one of the whole movie to me. Forget the ghosts, the naked lady or the elevator full of blood, the amount of terror this kid is portraying is bone chilling.

Jack just repeated what the little girls said: "Forever and ever."

Just the fact that when Danny turns the corner and Jack is just sitting on the edge of the bed staring into space. Creepy!

Stanley Kubrick originally didn’t want music in this scene, but his sound editor, Gordon Stainforth felt the scene was empty without any and thought of this Bela Bartok track. After reluctance of hearing any music added to the scene, Stanley conceded and was very happy with it.

1:53 *“Do you feel bad?”* Knowing that Danny can read minds, I wonder what Jack was thinking to make him ask that 🤔😨

I don’t know how Danny did this scene with Jack all in his face like that. I would’ve bursted in tears. He’s so creepy. Those eyes, the eyebrows, that smile. Ha.

Jack Nicholson is such a phenominal actor but can I just point out how incredibly talented Danny Lloyd is?! He held his own in this scene...I can feel the fear, tension and apprehension radiating off of him. Such a great scene featuring two gifted actors. 🖤🖤

This movie man, it's like it constantly has that dark energy going on with the soundtrack. It's easily a cinematic masterpiece.

Rewatching this film, and on this scene when Danny walks into the room and the rapid pan to Jack, i suddenly felt an overwhelming dread wash over me. Those few moments it felt like a child about to witness his father commit suicide.
I don't why i thought this, i have no experiences to explain it. There is no deep analysis. It's just a thought running in my head I wanted to share.

Imo the creepiest of that entire scene is build up a few minutes before when Wendy says to Danny: "Don't go to the bedroom, you father just fell asleep a few hours ago"

But when Danny arrives, not only is his father awake, but staring at nothing... I ask... For how long? How many hours... Has Jack just been there. Sitting... Staring at "nothing"... Thinking what...

He does say: "I can't sleep", afterall...

You can totally tell this is Jack at this point is barely holding off the Overlook's influence on his mind, while his body language may be more mischievously discordant in comparison to what he's saying to Danny, he is still trying to be genuine with Danny at this point but at times you can clearly see when his sanity dips as the Overlook's influence takes a stronger hold on his mind. While many people would say he is just an abusive dad entirely this scene really goes against that as he really had no reason to call him over to comfort him if he just flat out wanted him gone or dead and didn't care about him.
