I haven’t been able to find any online information about York becoming a drunk and divorcing his wife.

York grew up in the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee, not in the Rocky Mountains. The Appalachian's are along the eastern side of N. America, the Rockies run down the central USA between Montana and New Mexico.

The guy did what he had to do, did not like being honored for it, and spent the rest of his life making sure kids in his area got a good education. Not much to 'unravel'.

You stated his marriage ended in dissolution. That's incorrect,

For his accomplishments, he received land and cash. Yet, in spite of what he did, the IRS came after him for Taxes due.

You use the title of James Gregory’s book as clickbait but show that you did not do your research and continued the same myth.

After the war to deal what he endured during the war, he drank and that continued his whole life. He was made a major in WW2. And his main job was to push war bonds.

The war was almost over before York went to France.
