Does folding a piece of paper 42 times really make it as thick as the Earth to the Moon?

I need to see this 3D animated somehow so I can process how this is at all possible

You are really good at mathematics specifically algebra. This is an interesting concept, and since matter can not created nor destroyed, the length or width of the piece of paper would decrease exponentially after each fold.

That’s just doesn’t seem like it’s even a real possibility. It’s so unfathomable to me.

This kind of exponential growth literally breaks the laws of physics due to the innate properties of paper.. so, ironically, on paper, this is true, but is nothing more than a hypothetical on paper in it of itself 😋

I watched a guy hydraulic press and fold paper 9 times, and the paper exploded.

Why doesn't this work, if you cut it into 42 evenly sized peices and stacked them together??

I’ve done this in class like 1 billion times. I did it like this way sideways in the corner and I folded it over probably my max 50 times and guess what that paper ain’t going through the ceiling lol.

It could je « possible » if the paper was extremely huge, like millions of KM2

103 times make it longer than the universe🌌

This makes only sense if you cut the fold and stack the separate pieces. Doing that 42 times may be the length to the moon, the amount cut to stack would be so small, it would be anatomical.

My record was only 8 times
Edit: it's possible if you have a big paper

Math that works on a single sheet of paper….Math that doesnt work on a 440, 000, 000 M thick piece of paper.

Aint possible unless the paper is already thick af or somin cus then youd have to create paper length out of thin air. (You cant go past 7 cus it would break due to not having any more paper to stack/thicken)

Hypothetically, yes. But in practice, is not possible, I guess.

fun fact: if u fold the paper in half 128 times, it will be larger than the entire observable universe
