WOODWORKING SHOP LAYOUT – Shop Tour 2017 | DIY workshop ideas

I show you around my woodshop and give you some ideas for a woodworking shop layout. My shop is a woodworking shop in the making: Some areas are already well structured for woodworking, others are far from that. You’ll see in this shop tour what I mean ;-)

On one wall I’ve made a tool wall with french-cleat tool storage, this is also where my workbench and the drillpress table are located.

My only large power tool is the table saw, in addition I have some smaller power tools. I tell you a little about what the shop looked like when I got into it when we bought the house, show you what it’s like today and tell you some of my plans for it.

I hope that from the tour you can get some workshop organization ideas.

Some of the points I mention in the video:

How I upgraded the old workbench that was in my shop (in German):
Aufrüstung meiner alten Werkbank

How I use my workbench (in German):
Erfahrungen mit meiner Werkbank und wie ich mit ihr arbeite

How I made the french-cleat wall (in German):
Winkelleisten für die Werkstattwand

How I built my moxon vise (in German):

## Partners and “Advertisement” label ##

I want to let you know that I cooperate with a couple of tool companies. Occasionally, they provide me with some of their tools for me to use in the shop.

But: Whenever you see me using a tool it means that I like it and think it’s worth using. When I do a review, I tell you my honest opinion.

I want to be transparent about these partnerships, however, so that you’re not kept in the dark and can make up your own mind if you think I’m in fact unbiased or not.

My partner companies are: Bessey, Kreg, Maschinenhandel Meyer, Triton, Wolfcraft (as of 02/2018)

Klasse Werkstatt Andreas!!! Toll wie schön und ordentlich du Dich hier eingerichtet hast. Schaue mir so tolle Werkstätten immer wieder gerne an. Deine ist mal wieder ein Highlight! Die French Cleat Halter Wand gefällt mir besonders gut - sehr sehr schön gemacht. Danke für das Video!

Thanks for the tour - a good shop in the making.  I do like your phrase "unstructured storage" - I think we all have plenty of that!  Good luck with your plans!

Hi Andreas!
Compared to my shop (3x3m) you do have plenty of space 😀
I especially like the french cleat, that I am going to setup in my Workshop soon.
Looking forward to more inspiration.
Greetings from the Bodensee.

Ausgezeichnet! Thank you for your realistic shop. Mine too has stuff in corners for all manner of non woodworking purposes. I would interested to learn more about your drill press. I haven't seen a design like that for hand drills. It looks very useful, unlike the many I see in the US for use with hand drills.

Hi Andreas, you are so fortunate to have both a Double Garage with a Double Garage sized Basement, best of both worlds :-)
My current single garage has never had a car in it since we moved in seven years ago, mainly because standard single integral garages here in the U.K. tend to be too small for modern day cars :-(
Having only recently discovered your channel and subscribed, I am catching up with a lot of your older videos :-)
If you recall, after watching your review I recently purchased a Bosch GTS 10XC Table Saw which I have now unboxed, built up and carried out a couple of Test Cuts, next is to build a proper cart so I can use it properly and move it around if need be.

I was watching your Workshop Tour from 2017 and if you don't mind, I have a question about your Drill Press and Drill Presses in general.
I have used various Drill Presses over the years in different places I have worked, but not used one for about 15 years now since my work became more office based and never felt the need for one at home until now.
Could you tell me if you would still prefer a proper Bench Drill Press ? or if you have grown used to the Wabeco Drill press as I too think it has a lot of extra capabilities over a standard Bench Drill Press ( What model of Bosch Drill do you use in it by the way ? )
I have been considering the Wabeco similar you yours, but also the Bosch Bench Drill PBD 40 which looks very nice but like most things has a few negative reviews ?
I would welcome, your opinions and recommendations if you have the time to respond, many thanks in advance.
(Love the Gerbil tank stand you made recently, my children had a "Gerbilarium" many many years ago similar to yours which was great fun for them)
Keep up the great work with your channel and I look forward to your next Video.
Regards,
Colin.

At least you have a workshop. Mine needs still to be designed, drawn and built ;-) ! Again a nice video and a very good presentation. I am sure you will make something beautiful. A miter saw station? Isn 't that something to consider?

Perhaps you could build a garden shed to store garden stuff, the toys, and also make a video about it. Plus the lighting is better outside! :)

Howdy Andreas! Thanks for the tour. My question is: do you have heating/cooling in the existing space or is it needed? Perhaps you described that in a previous post. In any case, you have a great start to your workshop.
