Why Jim Parsons Quit the Big Bang Theory

Most people recognize Jim Parson's from CBS's Big Bang Theory as the supremely intelligent yet stubbornly childish Sheldon Cooper. But if you think that he is anything like his nerdy on-screen persona, then think again.

You might be surprised that Parsons has never seen an episode of Star Trek or Doctor Who - even though those are two of Sheldon's favorites. Parson's is far from the dorky, brooding goofball that he played on TV. His personal like is rich with intricacy, complexity, and even a bit of mystery.

More than just being a supporting cast member, Parsons was the glue that held everything together for the Big Bang Theory. So much so that when he called it quits after season 12, the show itself followed suit and bowed out. But why did he make that fateful decision to leave the show when he did?

Jim Parsons played the endearingly nerdy yet bumbling Sheldon on the hit sitcom Big Bang Theory. For a while, he was the highest-paid actor on television. It was estimated in 2018 that he was making $1 million per episode.

That's not too shabby considering the fact that before he was on the show, he struggled for years to get his name and face out there. His acting teachers back in college doubted whether he would ever find success and he even found himself in 15 failed pilots before landing the role of his career on the Big Bang Theory.

Jim Parsons is much more complex that his humorous character on TV seems. He is a man with many layers and embodies quite a by of sensitivity. Find out why he chose to eventually leave the show that made his career. Discover with us why he never found himself on American Horror Story despite the fact that he and Ryan Murphy, the show's creator, are great friends. Facts verse will reveal once again a whole slew of secrets that you never knew about the Big Bang star.

Find out who Jim's best friend was amongst the cast - and no, it wasn't Leonard. We will also reveal what was one of Jim's biggest fears from his younger years that followed him into his adult professional life. You're not going to want to miss this Big Bang of a video. It's going to change the way you look at Jim Parsons forever.

I agree with Jim that mental health is more important but I would have loved to see Leonard and penny’s kid and maybe even Sheldon and Amy’s

You are aware that he is still an executive producer and narrator for a show called Young Sheldon?

There's no way the show would've survived without him. He was the show and everyone played off of him. It's like in football losing your star quarterback. Sheldon was the quarterback of that show. I saw him doing a sports talk show and couldn't believe how cool a guy he was. Totally different from Sheldon.

Jim made the right decision. TBBT ended at the right time.

Decent ratings? The show had 20 million weekly viewers in the last season I’m pretty sure. That’s amazing.

Maybe he was tired of the same character after..., ., , 12 years! Thanks Jimbo

I can just imagine a Big Bang Reunion episode, with Shamy & Lenny with their kids, and the rest of the gang & families. Would be amazing.

I would have been interested in a spin off without Sheldon. Personally I couldn't stand Sheldon but I was amazed how flawlessly Jim played the part. He's definitely top level talent.

Yea yea, Jim dumped The Big Bang Theory on the 12 season but still we must not forget what he has given us, how happy has he made us for 12 long years, i was 10 back in 2007 and since the first episode i was hooked, i grew up with that show and it will forever be my favourite. So, Big thanks to all the actors that did such a great job on this show and for making me smile when im sad or just down.

Jim did the right thing prioritising personal happiness over career success. I wouldn’t hesitate to do the same because our lives are finite. Jim knew he’d found the love of his life and had enough saved to venture forward into new projects. For what it’s worth, the series will always have a place in our hearts. Thank you for sharing this clip :)

Sheldon Cooper WAS the BBT. Without him, there could be no show. I'd love to think that there will be a BBT reunion movie in about 5 years.

Those Big Bang guys are set for for life; they got 800k per episode and the show got syndicated. If it weren’t for Parsons, Galecki would be washed up doing smack on Santa Monica Blvd with the two Corries, Pauly Shore and the Karate Kid guy.

I am still so sad that The Big Bang Theory is over because it was so hilarious 🤣 but they were right, it wouldn’t be the same without Sheldon and I don’t think the show would have made it past that next year. I really miss seeing you guys but your happiness is way more
