Not disagreeing with you, but Keto cured my depression and I lost 65 pounds, over the years I would go to a Mediterranean diet but the foggy brain, low energy, and depression came back every. single. time. Idk whatd going on in my body but Keto has been a life saver and everyone who knows me has seen the difference both mentally and physically. I still have watched you Paul for years (and others) and dont need for you guys to approve of Keto, I'm here for the great health info

Paul, I'm on your side here, but please please read your studies beyond the abstract. Your second study took patients who already had mild hypothyroidism. When thyroid markers went subclinical in 7/20 participants after short term ketosis, they immediately treated them with thyroxine. In the control group, thyroid markers slightly worsened, but started to return back to baseline after the 12 month mark, when they ended the study. The study does not show that ketogenic diets cause hypothyroidism like you claim. I didn't read the other studies, but suspect it is a similar picture.

Calisthenic athlete here. I've been carnivore for 3 years. I started adding back in clean carbs (fruits and honey), and i can 100% tell you that I perform better in many ways. My explosiveness and energy level is through the roof. I keep my carbs around 50g-75g a day and that's my sweet spot. Ive developed metabolic flexibility in the last 6 months. Its okay to stay keto/carnivore if it makes you feel good but id rather feel better and perform at a higher level.

I was low carb for years and ended up with low thyroid function. It's about what kind of carbs you eat. I follow the autoimmune protocol diet which is a lectin free diet and it healed my gut.

I’m on no bread, no pasta, and no rice. I’m feeling good and less bloated. Will experiment with adding carbs (no bread tho) once I reach my desired weight

I dropped too much weight going carnivore and keto. My metabolism and energy levels are rippin, I had to find healthy carbs that my body agreed with. Sweet potatoes and cruciferous veggies have helped me put weight back on and help me look and feel healthier.

Ben Bikman addressed the thyroid health issue on low carb (keto) in a post a couple of days ago. T3 is lowered (the body's requirement less when on keto), but TSH remains normal.

I still think that i developed anxiety because of a low carb diet! I felt so crappy on low carb and would always think something was wrong me. The more I was keto the worst I felt, one time I almost called 911 because of how terrible I felt, all I needed was carbs!

I came to listen to him only because I've struggled with muscle cramps on carnivore, and I take a ton of electrolytes and water. I'm willing to try some fruit-based carbs to test his theory that the kidneys might need insulin to stop excreting all the electrolytes. Nothing else has helped so there is no harm in trying for a while. I generally feel like crap when I go off the wagon with sugar and grains, but the cramps go away, so in my mind some of this makes sense.

I feel much better with low carb and getting my carbs from plants, lentils, beans and chickpeas. I feel fine and energetic. I also quit caffeine and all teas/coffees and that has made a different in sleep which has helped a lot.

The thing is, when you say carbohydrates, people think "bread, bagels, and pasta made with sugar and seed oils". They don't think "fruit"
