The Metropolitan Museum of Art is easily among the best art museums in the world. Few collections boast such diversity; stretching all over the world and way back to ancient times, to give visitors a sense that they’ve travelled the globe without ever leaving Central Park.

Why Take This Tour?
Unfortunately it’s the thing that makes the Met so wonderful that also makes it so intimidating to visitors – with the world at your feet, where do you start?

The best of the Met in just 2 hours!
Our Highlights of the Met tour is as tight as they come, but after much practice, we’ve managed to fit it all in. In two hours our guides will introduce you to the Met’s landmark pieces – selected works from Van Gogh, a bronze of Auguste Rodin’s ‘Thinker’, Claude Monet’s ‘Water Lillies’ and the colossal Temple of Dendur – so large it required a new wing be added to the Met. As you tour, they’ll have time to tell you the incredible stories behind these works, from what really happened to Van Gogh’s ear to why you can thank Jackie Onassis for the ancient Egyptian temple.

We also want to show you some special less-visited pieces – the ones we always bring our friends to see. As we travel you’ll see Egyptian mummies; the armor of Britain’s infamous King Henry VIII (the one with all the wives); ancient sculptures all the way from Rome and Greece; the Antioch Chalice a.k.a. “The Holy Grail”; and the Papua New Guinea Bisj Poles. The latter is one of our favorites, for its incredible story involving a Rockefeller and a group of cannibals.

Small groups of 15 or fewer
Throughout your Met tour you’ll travel in groups of maximum 15 people. Having such an intimate group makes it easier to interact with your guide and to connect with other visitors. So your tour is as casual and informal as it is informative.

Having such small groups also means we travel a little more quietly, retaining that sense of peace and tranquility within the rooms we visit. You won’t jostle to see the artworks your guide is talking about, or strain to peek at the pictures and materials he has on hand. This may be a highlights tour, but that doesn’t mean it has to feel like Art 101. You’ll find our guides just as passionate, enthusiastic and engaging as you would a three-day tour of the East Wing.

With special rooftop access
Our Highlights of the Met tours end with a special surprise (weather permitting, from May – October). We’ll take the elevator to the top level of the museum to visit the incredible rooftop garden, not included on most tours of the Met.

From here you’ll have beautiful views over all of Central Park and the prime real estate at its edges, home to such stars as U2’s Bono, the top dogs at Goldman Sachs and Madonna, if rumors are to be believed.
