How do you know what weight to start at when you begin a training plan?
If you have some training history and a training log, it won’t be hard for you to approximate what weight to use, based on what you’ve done before.
However, what if you’re brand new to an exercise or a training plan and you have no idea what is too light or too heavy?
My advice would be to start at a really light weight for you. You can use an empty bar, or a machine with no plates on it.
From there, do a few warm up sets where you increase the weight every time until it starts to get challenging. Eventually you’ll work up to a weight that is challenging enough to be difficult and potentially create a pump in the target area. Next week when you do the exercise, just make it a little heavier, and progress from there.
