Steve Vai - Dyin' Day

Dyin' Day from Fire Garden has always been one of my favorite Steve Vai songs.

When I was maybe 15, I had my first guitar and a little amp, that maybe had an 8in speaker with a volume and tone knob and that was about the extent of its features. I still played it constantly, but it would never be enough in a band.

My uncle told me he wanted me to meet a friend of his and check out this amp that he had. We went over to his friends house and he asked me to play something and I was really into this song. So, I plugged into his amp and played Dyin' Day and I wish that I could hear how bad it was. I remember I had learned the song by ear and was still in the early days of playing guitar so it couldn't have been that good.

When I was done, to my surprise, the guy said I could keep the amp. That amp got me through quite a bit of playing in the Sump Pumps and took a real beating. I'm talking ripped speakers and everything.

It was eventually retired for shinier things, but never stopped working, unlike those shinier things.
