Dr Martens shoes cracked sole review

Do all Dr Martens (shoes or boots) soles crack? Or was this only an issue with model Ashfield AW004 LM001?

I quit buying DMs, after several of my AirWair boots cracked. For $100+ shoes, I expected better. My newer $60 Sketchers hold up so much better, year-round, winter/snow and all!

Just an observation regarding the design of the track pattern in the sole . If the sole never
flexed during walking, ( it will of course, ) the sole would last . The track groove is so deep
that the sole flexes only at the groove . Due to the depth of the groove, and at the point of flexing,
the sole is quite thin in spite of the big chunky appearance from the side view .
So, the groove is actually the beginning of the cut that simply continues its journey through what
is left of the sole even from new . A bit like a thick bar of chocolate with deep grooves where
you can break it with little effort . So even the mighty dr M is guilty of planned obsolescence,
mixed with the odd design flaw .

Mine cracked the same way. Different model. The uppers on mine are perfect, but the soles are shit. I expected better.

I bought boots for my husband as a wedding anniversary present less than a year ago. the sole have split. Dr martens are ignoring my emails. We have 8 pairs. I can't love them any more.Sick of it. They're a disgusting company. They just take your money and no responsibility. I can't help it. Sorry mate...

thats exactly happens to me with every one pair(4th now) cracking after half year no matter winter or not (shit Chinese plastic) thrue crack water get in
i keep buying it because are comfortable other way forget

Had this issue with Asian-made boots but not the “Made in England” shoes, used them both in Canada through winter. The soles are made with PVC, which is basically plastic, which become harder and more brittle in extreme cold, which is why they split In the cold. I got the boots resoled with rubber soles, still using them occasionally now after 10 years. The shoes are 8 years old and are still on their original soles, never had any issues.

So, it turns out that this is unfixable damage and there is no other way than buying a new pair of Dr Martens. No, thanks! I will rather buy Timberland.

same thing happened to my 8 eye 1460s. Smoothed tread in a matter of months and cracked in a year. I feel your disappointment. I'm thinking of custom making my own soles, cos i do like the uppers.

yeah it is a tragedy, my Vonda Dr Martens boots did the same thing when I got to colder region, my pair before which I loved lasted me 6 years in Europe, then I found myself in Canada with my new pair exact same model and it was only two years old, in 2 months time both soles were cracked exactly like yours, I contacted the company headquarters, not so much to ask for new pair because a friend overseas bought them as a goodby present and had payed for them, but to inform them that they should consider a different material to export north, I got a reply where they asked for photo and receipt, sigh ! ....I hope they survive because they have the only boots out there I can walk in

I just found out same shit happened to my hiking Timberland shoes they cracked what about life time soles etc...

Rubber soles can crack in harsh winter conditions, I had same split on my DM's.

Sadly wearing them in sub temperatures will do that to them. I had countless drMartens & all their soles ended up split up "just like the video".

Mine also cracked in the winter. The quality is shit, what a waste of leather. Do not buy.
