Rare to see anyone ordering new a car new and keeping it longer than 5 years! GTD have always been such a solid car in general

I just bought a 19 plate after having my 07 plate GTD for 14 years. Plan to keep this one for a long time. Thanks for the review

I’ve had the Golf GTi, Golf R and two EGolfs (mk7 and 7.5’s) and absolutely loved them all, I’m looking now to get a GTE!! Embarrassingly I’ve become a bit of a Golf fanboy, I just think it’s an excellent product

Great video and summary. I have had the same colour GTD, but a year newer, from new. I ordered it with DSG, rear camera and CarPlay - options which I really wanted. It is a terrific car that just drives and does everything very well plus still looks smart and fresh. I have no idea what I would ever change it for. The condition of my car is very good but from the video yours is excellent. Apart from needing new discs and pads my ownership experience has been very similar to you.

Best GTD owner review yet. My GTD estate dsg is flawless except for the low profiles (as you mentioned). I am due a tyre change soon and will take your advice on the Michelins. You make a good point about what to replace it with as it’s such a great all rounder.

I bought my 2015 GTD in 2018 with 37k on the clock. It’s now on 110k and I don’t see myself moving it on any time soon. I perhaps over maintain it, with services at 6-8k miles, but I always think oil is the cheapest mechanic!
It does everything so well, I can’t think of anything I’d replace it with!

I've recently bought a 2016 GTD with 45k miles on the clock in mint condition. By far the best spec, feel and handling car for the money I've ever owned.
I unwisely keep a car for a year before I'm bored but I'll be keeping this for much longer in sure. Love it!
Oh and I unlocked the android auto for £25 from a guy on ebay.
I'll be doing a stage 1 tune at some point when it's on sale next.

Had my golf for the past 9 years and can confirm all the points you raised including acc sensor getting damaged relatively easily. Same occasional regrets about not going for auto!

I have the 7.5 GTD auto and top spec 3 door. It hit 1ook mls recently and was thinking of selling it but when I looked it hit me that you have one of the best cars in its range, I'm keeping it!

I had to get my ACC recalibrated on my 7.5 after I removed the bumper to replace the lower grill and it stopped working with errors. Paid some guy that came out with a load of kit that he set up on my driveway. It didn’t work and he charge me for the call out £180!!. In the end I called VW York thinking it was going to cost a fortune and they did it for £80. Only had my Golf for 10/11 months. This video has me looking at them again now.

Great 8 year report! You're a great advocate for Volkswagen! I'm running a 2018 Mk7.5 Golf GTI Performance 5dr DSG (7-speed) and absolutely love it. Only options are rear camera and metallic paint (Isaac Blue). 5 years on and 30k miles. I buy the service packs, which usually cost about £400 for 2 services and MOTs, as you say there are plenty of plans to suit car mileage and owners' budgets. I have no intention of changing my car any time soon 😁
re: replacement - if you don't like the new Golf mk8 then what about a Seat/Cupra Leon, Audi A3, or a Skoda Octavia (slightly larger), or any of VAG's massive range of SUV's. 🖖

I had one of these in almost identical spec as yours, same colour and all. I do miss it, it is an extremely versatile car and great on all fronts. Have had GTIs as well, but always felt the GTD a bit of an underrated dark horse. I don't regret not getting the dsg. I owned it for four years with no issues at all.

If you're looking to buy one, I'd say try and get a 2016, it comes with more equipment as standard. Mine was a 2015, but I never felt short of equipment/toys.

I’ve recently got a 2013 mk7 golf TSI GT edition from Japan, it came with a DSG gearbox and only cost £10, 495 with 21, 000 miles on the clock, it’s a dream to drive and feels so smooth!

Looking to pick up a used GTD for a fun family all-rounder. This video was brilliantly helpful, and has solidified this car as the perfect choice. Thank you!

Loved the review. I've owned my MK7 Golf R for about 7 years now. Also share it on YouTube and I can't fault it 🎉

Really good review Mike, I too have enjoyed a similar quality mk 7.5 experience. The DSG transmission is a delight, being an old spanner man have always carried out every service using genuine parts, money well spent. Won’t change her for the world.

For anyone thinking of getting this car, do it! I had a similar one, but in black with the DSG. It was a joy to drive and really reliable. I swapped it when it turned 5 yrs old for a A35. Now that is blistering quicker than the Golf, but you probably won’t notice if you live in the countryside like I do with lots of twisty roads.

Been looking at these just recently. Probably likely to be a '16-'17 with 50-60k. Budget around £12-£13.
Nice video. First one that popped up and only one so far I've seen on the GTD. Makes a pleasant change not having a ton of flashy graphics and loud, brass commentary. Seems a very honest and genuine review. Appreciated. I'm sold.

Good video, my friend! I own a GTD like yours in white, with solar roof, alcantara/clark seats, dynamic suspension and DYNAUDIO hifi system. In spain, Nogaro wheels came with red painted brake calipers and sound actuator. This is my car. And I just can’t be more identified with you. I love my GTD, and I am afraid and sad to see that young people nowadays won’t be able to afford to buy cars like it without spending less then 50.000 €. I just will take care of my GTD (I hope) forever. Yes, call me “retro” or vintage. This is me. 😂Take care of your GTD, my friend! See you in your next video!
