So... Genshin Impact, eh? I've gotten numerous requests to cover music from this game over the years, so I guess this is somewhat overdue. Specifically, I covered this game because someone bemoaned on twitter that I hadn't yet, so I asked them directly what they'd prefer to hear. They recommended this track, to which my editor Rachel thoroughly agreed (demanded) since she likes the character, and has even cosplayed in the past!

Raiden Shogun (Ei? Beelzebub? The Shogun?) is a cool character with a cool design. I attempted to research the wiki about their backstory but it was several confusing chapters long that likely requires in-game context, so I decided that it may be best to leave it a mystery with a cool character design.

I did notice that the melody of this track is based on the old Japanese folk song "Sakura Sakura", so I attempted to incorporate that motif into my arrangement in place of a particular section of the track that felt like it needed something. I hope you don't mind this subtle change!!

Genshin Impact has its flaws as a game, but its OST (especially during Yu-Peng Chen's tenure leading the music team) is truly top notch! Still play it nearly every day, 3 years later.

Genshin has a massive wealth of stunning tracks to choose from in case you ever want to return for another song. Especially all the boss themes, for example "Rage Beneath the Mountains" or "Polumnia Omnia".

Please do make some more covers from the game, like Itto's theme 'Time to Shine' or Scaramouche's boss battle theme 'Polumnia Omnia' or others, that would be absolutley amazing!

If there's one specific piece I'd recommend, it'd have to be "Die Mittsommernacht-Fantasie". It's a shame it was written for a limited-time event, because it's one of the best overworld battle tracks in the game.
