Types Of Flowmeters And Their Industrial Applications.

A flow meter is a device that measures the flow rate of a fluid. They measure the linear, nonlinear, mass, or volumetric flow of a gas or a liquid. Flow meters are known as flow gauges and flow measurement instruments.

There are two broad types of flow meters widely used in industries;

1. Volumetric flow meters 2. Mass flow meters.

A volumetric flow meter measures the fluid volume passing through a specific location in a set period.

Various types of volumetric flow rates available are;

- Differential head type ( orifice plate, venturi meters, annular, rotameter, etc)

- Electromagnetic flow meters

- Ultrasonic flow meters

- Turbine flow meters

- Vortex flow meters

- Positive displacement meters.

Mass flow meters measure the mass flow rate that travels through a tube per unit of time. There are two types of mass flow meters;

- Coriolis Mass flow meter

- Thermal mass flow meter.
