Greening Cyprus Beaches

In 2012 the Travel Foundation embarked on a Greening Cyprus Beaches project with the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) and Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative. The project aimed to demonstrate what a best practice "green" beach could look like.
Two beaches were involved in a pilot project: Nissi Beach in Agia Napa and Fig Tree Bay in Protaras.
Due to interest being shown from neighbouring municipalities and beach front businesses, we worked with the CTO to design, develop and circulate a Greening Cyprus Beaches manual.
Following the pilot project, two more beaches -- Yiannathes beach in Oroklini and Polis Chrysochou beach -- are now working towards the Greening Cyprus Beaches criteria outlined in the manual.
