"FYI, If you are carrying a backpack with emergency items, you are NOT going to have a kid on your back as well."

Proves you're not much on helping others. Sometimes you may have to help someone with children move out of a dangerous situation, like a flooding neighborhood.

Sorry I rather carry someone's child on my back than your monstority of a backpack. I'm not overloading myself because I've been in a disaster and know emergencies happen where we as a community have to pitch in and help.

During Katrina stores were broken into, not private homes. I guess some who wasn't prepared was desperate. Again I lived through disaster and never suffered because stores were broken into. Nobody ever attacked me during a disaster.

Stop putting fear into people. During disasters people tend to band together and help each other. Guys came out of nowhere and cut broken branches off of my roof, and placed a tarp.

Being prepared is great and keeping a BUG-OUT bag is essential. But planning out your bag there are several factors to consider. 1. How many people are in your family/ group. 2. Anyone in your family/group who may have medical needs * You need to factor that in your Bugout planning. 3. You have a If your going to keep that dog you also have to factor supplies for that animal. 4. What are you using for shelter? Remember WATER, FOOD, SHELTER, PROTECTION, SECURITY, COMMUNICATIONS.... in that order.

Careful planning is very take this into consideration. When SANDY hit New York City and the surrounding areas... Long Island was without power and SEA-GATE Brooklyn looks like a bomb hit that place. In New Jersey it looked like the Shanghai Steam Roller barreled through town wiping out that area. Then to compound things the weather got cold. I was I showed neighbors how to NOT BE A VICTIM. Train, Learn Only the Prepared Mind WINS. God Bless

This guy is prepare for anything. I don't blame him. Hurricane Sandy was pretty scary, especially as a New Yorker. We all should have emergency bags, because you never know what's going to happen.

The problem with cash is that in a emergecy when order breaks down cash is useless. Like if you are in a desert and i have gold and water you are going to want my water over the gold.

🏞 Mountain house is expensive. Ramen style noodles, crackers, little oatmeal packages, which can be homemade using little ziploc bags, and those all in a sturdy freezer ziploc bag, a can of sardines, a can of little sausages, a can of tuna, cough drops, and chewable vitamins. These will keep you alive all the same, without breaking the bank. It can be done. Add some hot chocolate in little pouches, from a dollar store. Herbal tea bags, and salt, pepper, sugar in little servings from any takeout food.
A small personal water filter, some might get a life straw, or other such device.
Homemade first aid kit. In a sturdy ziploc bag, place a copy of personal documents, any medical information, add a written list of phone numbers and addresses. Also separately add quarters for any public phone, and some money in small bills.
A change of socks and underwear, seasonal clothing.

You're in 2 to 3 feet of water. How many inches is that above your child's head? Plus you're in a crowd of people running from a diaster. How many times will someone fall over, or turn over your wagon? That's why it's best to carry your valuables on your back.

As someone who doesn't join groups of any kind, I always shy away from the prepper groups out there. I'd prefer to just have a friend or two who's into this and thinks about such things in a similar way. Difficult to know how to find such folks in one's area, though, without getting drawn into a group.
