Covered Pockets in International Rules Pool | Pool School

In this video I look again about how to deal with covered pockets but this time playing under international pool rules. How we approach covered pockets in International pools rules is very different from in World rules and this video covers some of the options available to use. This includes using the loss of turn shot and a couple of different combination shots.
The shots are carried out on a 7ft Supreme Winner UK 8 ball table

Another good video. The loss of turn shot was the hardest thing for me to remember to even consider, let alone attempt, when we moved to International rules in our league as it felt so counter intuitive. Having played a full season of IR now it's almost second nature and a crucial element to get right (or try to). It has also eliminated the bloody 30-45 minute frames we had to endure under the old rule set! IR also allow you to try to get rid of as many of opponent's balls as possible when the circumstances and opportunity arise which can certainly swing a frame in your favour

Great video as ever - just wanted to mention that the layout you are showing is an open table (no object balls potted) so your initial play wouldn’t reserve a colour set (yellows) … the reds are still available. I mention this as anyone new to Int. Rules doesn’t always understand this. It’s not a common situation to play a turnover shot on an open table but it can happen.

great vids! have you got clearance for the cue the whole way round the table even at the edges for that room? Im going to be building something similar very soon!

Any chance to do a main rules difference to both sets of rules please. I am thinking to start playing again after many years, I am out of touch with the rules.

Great video 👍. I would say as well that international rules will teach players more of the craft of cue sports. Like learning angles when escaping a snooker and how the cue ball will square up off a cushion depending on how hard you hit it or swerve shots. You will end up in a lot of snookers when playing IR. In WR you would tend not to even bother trying the escape off a cushion because it was easier to play a much simpler deliberate foul On the ball blocking you. In general world rules is not really in the spirit of pool which is meant to be an attacking game and if I'm honest I believe they were created by lesser players trying to find a way to level the playing field agianst the better players by removing the skill of the attacking side of the game and making it more of a test of your tactical ability which means they can compete if they know all the dirty tricks you can do in WR.

Random question, How do you compensate for side spin? I see so many shorts showing example not to cue a certain ball straight, As it leaves nothing for your next shot, Or just makes it a harder pot, Then they're like "Add left/right hand side instead, And play the shot" and then give no information on the fact adding side makes your firing angle wrong, And don't at all tell you how to apply the side and still pot the ball

Aare you allowddd to pot abother colour wify the black? For example if your last colour or the other cpur goes in first, then the black goes in on the same shot, is that a legal finish? Im asking vecayse it hapoenes to me just tiday. Aorry about the typing.. my keyboard is briken.

What happens if you play the loss of turn shot and snooker your apponent on all their balls? Is it a foul snooker like WR?

I prefer to leave my ball in the front of there there ball that's in the pocket if available. That's the best way to solve the "there ball is blocking my ball. They cannot finish the game without giving me another turn at the table. High level 8 ball or what the euro game is called "black ball"
