When you think about it, most of the territorial men in fiction were written by women. *glares at Twilight and Fifty Shades* *shrugs*

"When you're creating your own fantasy world, why would you further perpetuate this negative, harmful stereotype of masculinity- that men have to be protective over women, or that they have to have some sort of ownership over women?" 👏👏👏👏 Aaaaand this is the reason I can't bring myself to read anything written by Sarah J. Maas. And frankly you SHOULD make a video just on this topic, that would be fantastic!

For Sci-fi I would recommend The Lunar Chronicles! It's a pretty "light" Sci-fi but it's very good!

This sounds weird but can I just say I am so relieved that you didn't put a disclaimer in this video. There's no reason for you to apologize for your opinions, it's your channel and we all saw the title, lol. And also yes to your answer on the least favorite trope!!! I am totally here for you making a video going in more depth about that, too. and i agree with you on Colleen Hoover... i read 3 of her books and hated 2/3 of them. i dont understand the hype either

Omg Rowan and Aelin are the most forced ship EVER. Also, if you want a good sci-fi series, I would recommend The Lunar Chronichles. I never read sci-fi (I don't even like it) but these books blew me away.

I agree with you on the book trope about the territorial male characters. And also even though I still really like Sarah J Maas's books I think that she has some issues that she could improve on. Also what's so weird to me is that even though she pushes a lot of feminist ideas in her books she still romanticizes these male possessive characters.

I would definitely recommend The 5th wave or The Lunar chronicles as sci fi books :)

I totally agree with you on Rowan and ugh I have always felt like it was forced and like there's no actual depth to their relationship, all the rest of the characters have such perfectly developed relationships so I don't know why theirs is the worst!!!

I understand your opinion on the whole overprotective alpha male/territorial alpha males in books especially YA Fantasy. It's definitely become a popular trend for authors to use in their books. I usually read about these types of characters in the New Adult and Romance genre. As a reader who loves romance, I personally love the alpha male characters. But I do think is overused and can sometimes come off as abusive and controlling, which isn't attractive. I think putting a controlling male character in a YA books can easily give younger readers the wrong perception that it's okay for a guy to be overprotective and jealous if the girl even looks at another guy. So while I enjoy it in to romance books when not overdone, I don't feel like it should be used in the YA genre.

As far as a series everyone seems to love that I didn't, it had to be Throne of Glass for me. I just didn't buy Celaena as a badass assassin. I mean, we are TOLD over and over again that she's this cut-throat killer, but all we ever see her doing is eating cake and obsessing over what she is wearing. I also didn't like that the 'competition' to find the best baddie mostly happened off-page and what we do see is pretty lame...I mean really...an obstacle course? Anyway, I know I am very much in the minority on this one...oh well.

I feel like what may have happened was Sarah J Maas and this may be kind of spoilly you've been warned! I feel like she was going to have Chaol be endgame but then Rowan this hot old gray haired fae animal popped into her head and as she was writing the third book she decided right in the middle of the third book right after she created such a beautiful friendship she decided "You know what change of plans I like Rowan much better then Chaol maybe Rowan and Aelin should actually be together!" "You know what yes yes they should in fact I'm going to make them mates so no one can question their relationship and say they shouldn't be a thing!" Even though in book five they say if mates can't physically hurt each other yet Rowan and Aelin have hit each other so many times! :l

Well my unpopular opinion is that I really don't like Clary fairchild and I really dont like Jace but I like the series

You should absolutely do another video about tropes you have, I think it would be amazing. I completely agree with the possessive, territorial guy trope, it is problematic on so many levels. And a book that everyone loves that I don't really care for is The Book Thief, because while the writing was beautiful and I think it's an important read, I just didn't love it as much as everyone else seems to.

I love how you bash on the insecure/over-protective male bullshit. It's something that I seriously hate as well (in real-life and novels)
Continue to spread the word ~

I actually get so happy whenever I find someone who also doesn't like Julian because SO MANY PEOPLE LOVE HIM SO MUCH and I just honestly can't relate.

I agreed with much of what you said except for one thing. Well maybe two. I didn't mind Julian's character but i do wanna see more of him in the next book. However I disagree with you about Aelin and Rowan. I those two together soooo much. I just....to me, it was the fact that in Heir of Fire, Aelin is at her lowest point, Rowan is there and sees all the ugliness and shame she tried to hide, but didn't turn away. He accepted everything about her, which was so beautiful. He lets her make the decisions. I love them but it's cool if you're not that much of a fan.

Question. Have you read A Court of Thorns and Roses? Any thoughts on those?

For science fiction recommendations I highly highly recommend Ready Player One. I love it because of all the 80s references, the treasure hunt aspect and the awesome world building
