for those curious, 1 TiB is one binary terabyte. It comes from the binary kilobyte - computers like things to be in powers of 2 while our metric prefixes (deca, hecto, kilo, etc) are powers of 10. Luckily, there's a power of 2 that's close to a power of 10 (2^10 ≈ 10^3, 1, 024 ≈ 1, 000) so it was used for the kilobyte, which was 1024 bytes. 1 thousand thousands is a million, and one thousand millions is a billion, so it was easy to extend this (1024 bytes is 1 kilobyte (KB), 1024 KB is 1 megabyte (MB), 1024 MB is 1 gigabyte (GB), etc). The issue was that some people started using Kilobyte to refer to 1000 bytes instead of 1024 bytes, so the word was changed up a bit to refer to 1000 bytes instead of 1024 bytes. So when people want to talk about 1024 bytes, they use KiB (Kibbibyte, binary kilobyte)
