December 2020 when four men from Moab, Utah, took credit for removing it. The men, including adventure tour guide Sylvan Christensen, said they removed the 12-foot-tall metal structure to prevent environmental damage from the crowds that had gathered at the remote site. They posted a video online showing the monolith being dismantled and its interior exposed. After nearly a month in their possession, the men gave the monolith to the Bureau of Land Management, where it is currently in their custody
